Poem of my life - Been there
My name is Warren
Warren Douglas….
Born in Sydney, Australia
Did I have a birth twin?!
“Fred did it,” say I to my mum when caught in mischief!
Dreamer. Photographer. Hours in my father’s dark room, watching in fascination as the images emerge out of the water!
….
Shattered bubble. Mum is gone.
13 years old. Standing amidst shopping bags in the driveway.
She is not coming. My world crumbles around me.
…
Confusion. Rebellion.
Mum is back. Step dad. RAAF. Not for long.
Avondale. Band of happy, carefree young people. The record slows down, out of tune; I drop out.
...
Entrepreneurial. Doing well.
Where am I? It is in the news. Bad accident. Driver should have died. God miraculously saved my life. Long convalescence..
…
Sweet, smiling. Soul mate? New dreams. Little ones. Part of me. Joy.
I start preaching. Wally, my speech therapist impacts my life. College. Overseas missionary campaigns. Philippines. India.
…
The record winds down once again, out of tune
Downwards spiral. Family is no more.
Grim reality. My sister’s garage. Uncle to a cheerful bunch.
Is that it?
...
Dare I dream again? A call from France!
2010. AAA Coordinator.
Lay preaching. My vocation.
Drop it all? I do.
…
Europe. Fascinating! Another world! Starry eyed.
…
2020. And the years have gone by.
Milestones marked. Boxes ticked.
The world comes to a grinding halt. We brave it. Active community involvement. Rewarding. Input many lives.
….
2025.
All h e l l breaks loose in Europe.
I feel as the lost 13 year old standing with bags of groceries in the middle of the driveway!
Confused. At a loss. …
My sister. My nephew. They stand by me. I re-surface. Old, grey haired.
Psalm 1
….
2026.
One last milestone to achieve.
Arise! And shine! He is at the door! Matthew 25: 23
And so I continue forward, believing the words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
….
My journey has taken me through joy and heartbreak, success and loss, faith and doubt. Yet through it all, God has been present.
The door is near. The journey continues, in a world of turmoil where meaning and purpose can only be found in the promise of Jeremiah 29: 11 – 13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
My name is Warren. And this is my story.
